At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play, every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues or through our deep connections with our communities of players. We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing, and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.
Bingo Bash is a highly international team working on the biggest video game from India to date (measured by revenue). Here you will work on a top-grossing F2P game with significant and growing daily revenues, and help create fresh content for our players.
What You’ll Do
You will manage a cross-functional team of backend and client engineers (Unity/mobile/web), owning delivery, people development, and engineering quality for your area. You’ll work closely with the Architects and Principal Engineers to evolve backend systems (both monolithic and microservices), tools, and automation that power a high-scale, always-on, multi-platform game. While other senior leaders provide deep client technical support, you are expected to bring hands-on client experience and be comfortable leading full-stack initiatives. Responsibilities include:
Line manage, coach, and develop a team of 6+ engineers (backend and client), supporting performance, career growth, and engagement
Identify and address performance challenges, incorporating feedback from engineers and partner teams
Proactively unblock and guide the team with clear technical and process direction, balancing speed, quality, and risk
Collaborate with Architecture, Principal Engineers, Product, Design, LiveOps, and Analytics to deliver backend features, client integrations, tools, and automation that enable rapid live operations
Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation, and maintainable architecture
Provide technical leadership for internal tools, applications, services, and automation that improve developer productivity and operational reliability
Define staffing needs, partner with Recruiting, and actively participate in hiring and onboarding
Own delivery, quality, and operational health for your team’s features and services, representing them clearly and effectively to stakeholders
Partner closely with other Engineering Managers and senior client engineers to ensure full-stack alignment and smooth cross-team execution
What we’re looking for
Leadership & Experience
10+ years of experience in software engineering, including 4+ years managing teams of 6+ engineers, with a strong background in backend platform development
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
Technical Skills
Deep understanding of backend architectures for high-scale live services, including both monolithic and microservices-based systems
Hands-on experience delivering client-facing features (mobile or web) and partnering closely with client engineering teams
Strong grasp of object-oriented and data-oriented design principles, with the ability to define clear modules, service contracts, and interfaces
Commitment to building maintainable, well-documented codebases that enable efficient onboarding and long-term scalability
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, and release management in fast-paced, live production environments
Process & Communication
Proven track record of leading teams in agile, fast-iterating environments with a continuous improvement mindset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Product, Design, LiveOps, Analytics, and QA across brainstorming, requirements definition, estimation, and delivery accountability
Strong feedback orientation, with the ability to give and receive clear, constructive, and actionable feedback
Bonus Points
Experience in the games industry, particularly in live-service and free-to-play (F2P) environments
Passion for playing games, with a strong understanding of long-term player engagement and community dynamics
Tech Stack
You’ll lead in an environment that includes:
Client: Unity, C# (experience with additional mobile or web client technologies is a plus)
Backend: PHP, Java, SmartFox Server
Architecture: A mix of monolithic and microservices-based systems
Infrastructure: Linux, AWS
Data: MySQL, MongoDB
