Assistant Controller

The Serve fleet has been delighting merchants, customers, and pedestrians along the way in Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta and Chicago while doing commercial deliveries. We’re looking for talented individuals who will grow robotic deliveries from surprising novelty to efficient ubiquity. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in managing the company’s accounting operations, assisting with financial reporting, and business partner to leadership. This role partners closely with the Global Corporate Controller and is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments and has experience supporting public company reporting and SOX compliance. JOB DUTIES - Manage and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes - Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members through regular coaching, performance feedback, and career development planning - Oversee the consolidation of global subsidiaries, including foreign currency translation and eliminations - Oversee Accounts Payable ensuring timely payments - Oversee Accounts Receivable ensuring timely receipt of invoices - Oversee accounting for property, plant, and equipment, including capitalization policies, depreciation, impairments, and asset disposals - Manage accounting for leases under ASC 842, including ROU assets, lease liabilities, and related disclosures - Support in coordination with external and Internal auditors and manage audit deliverables - Maintain process documentation, and narratives - Help scale accounting systems, tools, and workflows to support company growth - Support in year-end inventory count (travel may be required) - Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration - Act as a trusted backup to the Controller - Project management of ad hoc projects EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, & SKILLS Required Experience, Qualifications, and Skills - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance - 7+ years of progressive accounting experience - 4-5 years experience managing and leading a team and/or multiple functions - Combination of Big 4 public accounting and industry experience - Experience working at or supporting a public company - Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements - Hands-on experience with SOX compliance - Advanced financial technology skills; experience with modern ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite) Preferred Experience, Qualifications, and Skills - Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - Experience at a high-growth or startup company - IPO readiness or post-IPO experience - Experience with equity accounting and stock-based compensation - Strong documentation and technical writing skills
