Systems Engineer

(DSA) is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the design, implementation, and sustainment of enterprise systems in a secure Department of Defense (DoD) environment. This role reports to the Technical Architect and works closely with Infrastructure, Network, Quality Assurance, Development, and Cyber Security teams to translate customer requirements into reliable, secure, and scalable technical solutions. The Systems Engineer will collaborate with senior technical staff to architect, implement, and maintain enterprise services, optimize system performance, and modernize environments through standardization, automation, and documentation. This position is hands-on and mission-focused, involving system administration, troubleshooting, and integration of new technologies to support evolving operational and enterprise objectives. This role is primarily aligned with standard business hours, with a flexible schedule and defined core working hours. The position is based in Frederick, MD and is eligible for up to two (2) days of telework per week, contingent on customer requirements, project needs, and security constraints. Required Qualifications All hired employees are expected to have experience with Microsoft Copilot and / or an approved equivalent AI solution Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field (experience may be substituted) DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE), or ability to obtain Security+ within 60 days of employment. 3–5 years of professional experience in systems engineering, system administration, infrastructure engineering, or software development. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in complex environments. Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and subnetting. Familiarity with Linux systems (Red Hat Enterprise Linux preferred). Basic understanding of containers (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift). Exposure to scripting or automation tools (Bash, Python, Ansible). Strong written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on documentation. Clearance Required Active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI. Desired Qualifications RHCSA or RHCE certification. Experience with automation or Infrastructure as Code tools (Ansible, Python, Terraform). Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS or Azure). Familiarity with DISA STIGs and DoD security standards. Prior experience supporting DoD or federal customers. Key Responsibilities Design, implement, and deploy system and infrastructure solutions that meet customer and mission requirements. Collaborate across infrastructure, networking, development, QA, and cyber security teams to support system integration and issue resolution. Perform hands-on system administration, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis in a secure enterprise environment. Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system configurations, diagrams, and operational procedures, to support continuity, audits, and accreditation activities. Participate in change control, configuration management, and incident response processes while maintaining high standards of operational discipline and communication.
