Job Description
The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and mission-driven ServiceNow CMDB Technical Lead to own and advance Moderna’s enterprise Configuration Management Database (CMDB). This role is pivotal in ensuring that our CMDB platform is accurate, resilient, and foundational for Digital and the broader Moderna environment.
You will serve as the technical owner for the CMDB architecture, Discovery, and Service Mapping, shaping the data model, driving integrations, and establishing governance that enables reliable visibility across Moderna’s digital ecosystem. In this role, you will partner closely with ServiceNow engineers, Digital, platform and application owners, and cross-functional stakeholders to strengthen operational reliability, security posture, and data quality across the enterprise.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a disciplined approach to engineering. You excel at building scalable platforms, improving data integrity, and driving alignment in a complex, fast-moving environment. This is an opportunity to play a critical role in advancing Moderna’s digital foundation and supporting the mission of delivering transformative medicines to patients.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Own and Evolve the CMDB Platform (CSDM-Aligned)
Serve as the primary technical authority for Moderna’s CMDB, owning its architecture, data model, and lifecycle.
Lead CSDM enablement and alignment, ensuring CMDB structures and service models map cleanly to CSDM constructs (e.g., Business Services, Technical Services, Service Offerings, applications, and supporting infrastructure).
Define and maintain CMDB standards, including class structures, relationships, attributes, naming conventions, lifecycle states, and governance workflows.
Establish and maintain CI class onboarding standards (required attributes, relationships, lifecycle rules, ownership, and audit requirements).
Develop and execute the CMDB roadmap and maturity plan; establish and report on KPIs that reflect data completeness, quality, and trustworthiness (e.g., coverage, freshness, relationship fidelity, duplicate rate, reconciliation outcomes).
Ensure CMDB and service model alignment with Moderna’s Digital strategy and evolving enterprise needs, enabling downstream use cases across ITSM/ITOM/SecOps and reporting.
Lead Discovery, Service Mapping, and Service Modeling
Own Moderna’s Discovery strategy, including MID server design, credential management, schedules, performance optimization, and scaling.
Lead Service Mapping and service modeling efforts to create and maintain accurate service topologies in partnership with platform and application owners.
Ensure service maps and service portfolios are CSDM-aligned and usable for operational reliability, change impact analysis, incident/problem correlation, and security visibility.
Drive continuous improvement of service-to-CI relationships to support end-to-end visibility across Moderna’s critical services.
Design and Govern Integrations & CI Ingestion Patterns (Per CI Class)
Design and maintain integrations across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), identity systems, endpoint tools (Intune, JAMF), network/infrastructure systems, security tools, and application platforms.
Define and govern the authoritative source and ingestion pattern for each CI class, selecting the best-fit approach (e.g., Discovery, Service Graph Connectors, APIs, imports/ETL, event-based updates) based on data reliability, ownership, and operational needs.
Establish CI class data contracts (source of truth, update frequency, required fields, relationship expectations, error handling, and SLAs) to ensure sustainable, supportable integrations.
Define and enforce normalization, identification, and reconciliation rules that prevent duplicates, reduce drift, and maintain consistent CI lifecycle outcomes across sources.
Ensure integrations produce CMDB data that supports key business outcomes: operational reliability, audit readiness, cybersecurity posture, and accurate reporting.
Drive Data Quality, Controls, and Governance
Establish data quality metrics and remediation processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and currency of CMDB data across CI classes and services.
Implement automated controls to reduce drift, prevent orphaned/stale CIs, improve relationship fidelity, and enforce lifecycle rules.
Own CMDB governance routines (data quality reviews, exception handling, class onboarding reviews, integration health checks), with clear accountability and operational cadence.
Experience supporting platform validation/qualification and other GxP requirements for enterprise systems, including maintaining compliant documentation (e.g., requirements/specs, test evidence), participating in periodic reviews, and ensuring changes follow controlled change management procedures.
Partner with cross-functional teams to strengthen adherence to governance standards and maintain audit-ready documentation, including technical specs, runbooks, and integration controls.
Provide Technical Leadership and Cross-Functional Influence
Function as the CMDB and CSDM subject matter expert, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical leadership to ServiceNow engineers and partner teams.
Collaborate with Identity, Endpoint, Cloud, Network, Cybersecurity, platform, and application owners to integrate CMDB and CSDM requirements into their operating models and workflows.
Influence senior leaders to prioritize initiatives that improve CMDB value, reliability, and enterprise visibility, translating technical needs into measurable outcomes and risk reduction.
Assess CMDB capabilities and maturity against customer needs and industry best practices (including CSDM alignment), and proactively recommend enhancements to improve usability, trust, and outcomes.
Assess and communicate the impact of CMDB changes across other ServiceNow modules and processes (and vice versa), ensuring interdependencies—especially between CMDB and Change—are understood, governed, and safely implemented.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or relevant experience.
7+ years of ServiceNow engineering experience, including at least 4 years focused on designing and developing CMDB solutions.
Deep knowledge of CMDB data modeling, reconciliation rules, identification strategies, and CI lifecycle management.
Hands-on experience designing, managing, and optimizing Discovery and MID server architectures.
Strong experience with Service Mapping, including both automated and manual techniques.
Proven success integrating cloud, infrastructure, endpoint, identity, and application systems with the CMDB.
Experience supporting or operating IT platforms in a regulated GxP environment, including audit readiness, controlled documentation, and change control practices.
Solid understanding of ITSM, ITOM, and data governance frameworks.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence without direct authority.
Demonstrated ownership mindset, engineering discipline, and commitment to quality.
Excellent documentation, and organizational skills, with a focus on consistency, accountability, and security-conscious execution.
Process-oriented and methodical approach with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience implementing CMDB governance in complex or regulated environments.
Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure, networking, virtualization, and service dependencies.
Experience developing dashboards, KPIs, and automated insights for CMDB health.
Scripting experience (JavaScript, PowerShell, Python) to support automation and integrations.
Proven experience driving platform roadmaps and leading cross-functional technical initiatives.
Passion for continuous improvement, data quality, and building systems that scale.
Adaptable, organized, and consistent in managing multiple priorities while upholding high standards of security and compliance.
