As a Controller at Comet, working remotely from the East Coast USA, you will own and direct all global accounting activities, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls, serving as the financial backbone of a growing company. You will ensure the company’s financial integrity while partnering closely with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making. In this role, you will balance hands-on execution with continuous process improvement, building structure where needed, strengthening rigor and accountability, and laying the groundwork for a scalable, world-class finance function as the business grows.
Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations & Close
Own the monthly close process, including general ledger review, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, T&E reimbursement, and customer and vendor contract accounting
Ensure timely, accurate GAAP-compliant financial reporting
Financial Controls, Compliance & Audit
Design, implement, and improve accounting processes and internal controls to support scale and compliance
Manage local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings
Strategic Partnership & FP&A Collaboration
Partner closely with FP&A to analyze budget vs. actual variances
Own the actuals layer of the budgeting and forecasting process
Cross-Functional & External Partnership
Manage relationships with external accounting firms, tax advisors, banks, and other professional partners
Operate independently while serving as a trusted financial partner to the COO and executive team
Partner closely with the Fractional CFO to support budgeting, forecasting, board materials, investor reporting, and ad hoc financial analyses.
Provide clear, proactive insights into financial performance, trends, and variances to internal stakeholders
Systems & Process Optimization
Continuously improve the month-end close and financial reporting procedures
Assess and implement scalable accounting and billing systems
Streamline and automate financial workflows
Who You Are:
CPA with 8+ years of relevant experience, including a mix of Big 4 public accounting and high-growth startup experience
Strong background in international technology companies, particularly SaaS/software businesses
Deep knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 606
Advanced proficiency in accounting systems, Excel/Google Sheets, and BI tools
Experience building processes in fast-scaling environments
Highly independent and self-directed, comfortable operating in a remote setting
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
High integrity with the ability to manage confidential information

This role will be located in the East Coast USA, working with a global team (large presence also in Europe and Tel Aviv), some flexibility with work hours is required
