We're seeking a highly experienced and strategic investment professional to join our team as the Director of Portfolio Construction & Risk Management. In this role, you will be responsible for enhancing and institutionalizing the firm’s portfolio construction framework, risk management architecture, and investment analytics capabilities across Wealth Enhancement Advisory Services (WEAS).
This leadership role partners closely with the Office of the CIO to drive asset allocation implementation, model portfolio oversight, and macro-informed positioning. The Director will focus on strengthening systematic portfolio construction processes, risk budgeting methodologies, tactical allocations, scenario analysis, and performance attribution frameworks to ensure scalable, disciplined investment outcomes across the platform.
This position requires strong multi-asset investment acumen, quantitative proficiency, and the ability to translate complex analytics into practical tools that support advisors, portfolio managers, and senior leadership.
Goals & Objectives
The Director of Portfolio Construction & Risk Management will serve as the lead architect of portfolio analytics and risk infrastructure supporting the firm’s model portfolios and discretionary strategies.
This includes:
Enhancing portfolio construction methodology and optimization frameworks
Formalizing risk budgeting and scenario analysis processes
Developing and maintaining capital market assumptions
Supporting macro-informed asset allocation analysis
Strengthening performance attribution and risk decomposition reporting
Improve framework for tactical asset allocation strategies
The Director will work closely with Portfolio Management, Investment Manager Research, Equity and Fixed Income leadership to ensure alignment across sleeves and asset classes within the WEAS model framework. The Director will be an integral member of the Asset Allocation Committee, Investment Committee, and relevant sub-committees (Equity, Fixed Income, Macro).
This is a fully remote position. In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the pay range for this position is $225,000.00 to $235,000.00, exclusive of bonuses and benefits. Primary Job Functions
Portfolio Construction & Risk Architecture
Enhance and formalize portfolio construction frameworks across model portfolios
Develop and maintain optimization methodologies that incorporate risk, return, liquidity, and tax considerations
Implement systematic risk budgeting and volatility management processes
Design and maintain stress testing and scenario analysis frameworks across asset classes
Support macro-informed positioning analysis in partnership with Portfolio Management
Monitor portfolio exposures including factor risk, duration, credit, and correlation structure
Risk Monitoring & Reporting
Oversee development of standardized risk dashboards for internal stakeholders
Develop reporting frameworks for drawdown analysis, scenario testing, and attribution
Ensure portfolio risks remain aligned with stated objectives and investment policy guidelines
Provide actionable risk insights to senior leadership and the Investment Committee
Capital Markets & Asset Allocation Support
Maintain and refresh capital market assumptions used in strategic allocation decisions
Support strategic and tactical asset allocation modeling
Assist in evaluating new asset classes and alternative investment structures from a portfolio construction perspective
Partner with Equity, Fixed Income, and Manager Research teams to ensure cohesive model sleeve integration
Investment Analytics & Infrastructure
Evaluate and enhance portfolio analytics systems (FactSet, Bloomberg, optimization tools, etc.)
Improve data governance and automation related to portfolio analysis and reporting
Support advisor-facing portfolio analytics and diagnostic tools
Identify process efficiencies to reduce manual portfolio oversight workflows
Special Projects
Lead portfolio-related special initiatives driven by market developments, platform growth, or strategic expansion
Support model evolution and new solution development initiatives
Contribute to white papers, investment commentary, and advisor education materials as needed
Leadership & Collaboration
Collaborate closely with the Head of Portfolio Management to support implementation excellence
Partner with Director of Investment Manager Research, Director of Fixed Income, and Director of Equities to ensure cross-asset consistency
Develop and mentor junior team members within portfolio analytics and risk functions
Establish documentation standards and quality control processes
Education/Qualifications
PhD preferred, Masters Degree in Quantitative Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field required
10+ years of experience (5+ with PhD) in multi-asset portfolio construction, asset allocation, or risk management
Strong quantitative and analytical skill set
Experience with portfolio optimization, risk systems, and multi-asset modeling
Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with FactSet, Bloomberg, and portfolio analytics tools required
Programming experience (Python, R, MATLAB, SQL) preferred
Strong understanding of traditional and alternative asset classes
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High ethical standards and professional integrity
Ability to work collaboratively across investment teams
WEG hires employees and makes decisions about their salary qualifications based on factors such as: the role to be performed; educational and professional experience, qualifications, skills and credentials; tenure, cost-of-living and demand for the role in the applicable market. To comply with state pay transparency laws, we must disclose the entire salary grade. The entire salary grade for those who are classified at the director level is $164,300.00 to $246,500.00. However, the base salary range bolded above ($225,000.00 to $235,000.00) is what we expect to pay as a starting range for this position.
