Job Summary:
Lead the business transformation that will redefine how Avangrid delivers customer and operational excellence across its operating companies. This role serves as the enterprise authority for business process design, governance, and strategic decision-making, bringing together executive leaders across seven operating companies to drive alignment on future ways of working. Acting as a key partner to business leadership, the Director balances customer experience, operational performance, regulatory requirements, and technology capabilities to deliver sustainable enterprise outcomes. The role plays a critical leadership position in Avangrid's S/4HANA transformation, ensuring business decisions maximize enterprise value, simplify operations, and strengthen customer outcomes. This is a highly visible role requiring significant executive influence, organizational leadership, and transformation experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive Business-Led Transformation – Lead the design and adoption of future-state business processes and operating models that support Avangrid's strategic objectives. Ensure transformation decisions are driven by business outcomes, customer experience, operational performance, and regulatory compliance rather than technology considerations alone.
Influence Executive Stakeholders – Partner directly with executive steering committees, business leaders, and operating company leadership to drive decisions on enterprise-wide transformation priorities. Build alignment among stakeholders with competing objectives and facilitate informed decision-making that maximizes long-term enterprise value.
Partner with Customer Service and Operations Leadership – Work closely with Customer Service, Operations, Regulatory, and business leaders to understand customer journeys, operational challenges, and compliance requirements. Translate business needs into sustainable enterprise solutions that improve customer outcomes and operational performance.
Chair Design Authority and Governance Forums – Lead governance councils and Design Authority forums responsible for evaluating strategic business and solution decisions. Provide clear direction and resolution on complex issues where competing stakeholder priorities require executive alignment and sponsorship.
Challenge and Shape Strategic Decisions – Provide independent leadership and constructive challenge to proposed requirements, business requests, and operating company preferences when they conflict with enterprise objectives. Guide stakeholders toward decisions that support standardization, scalability, and long-term value creation.
Drive Organizational Alignment and Adoption – Build commitment across executive and operational leadership teams to enterprise process standards and transformation objectives. Influence organizational adoption through effective stakeholder engagement, communication, and change leadership.
Measure Transformation Effectiveness and Value Realization – Establish and monitor measures that evaluate process adoption, governance effectiveness, business outcomes, risk management, and value realization. Provide executive leadership with actionable insights and recommendations to ensure transformation success.
Lead Enterprise Governance and Strategic Decision-Making – Establish and lead the enterprise governance model that guides critical business process and solution decisions across Avangrid's transformation portfolio. Serve as the primary decision authority for balancing business priorities, customer outcomes, regulatory requirements, operational needs, and technology capabilities.
Establish Enterprise Process Standards – Define and champion enterprise process standards across operating companies to promote consistency, scalability, and operational excellence. Lead fit-to-standard decision-making and minimize unnecessary customization while balancing legitimate business and regulatory needs.
Required Qualifications:
Education & Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Digital, Technology, or related field.
10+ years of experience in process governance or digital transformation.
Strong understanding of governance frameworks, process standardization, and cross-functional alignment in complex or regulated environments.
Skills/Abilities:
Leadership & Strategic Thinking – Demonstrated ability to set enterprise-wide governance vision, lead cross-functional teams, drive change management, and communicate effectively with executive stakeholders in complex environments.
Process & Solution Governance – Expertise in business process management, governance frameworks, enterprise architecture, and technology alignment, including process mapping, optimization, and standardization.
Customer-Centric Operational Alignment – Strong capability to design governance models that integrate regulatory requirements and customer needs, ensuring compliance and enhanced customer experience.
Analytical & Financial Acumen – Proficient in data-driven decision-making, performance analysis, ROI evaluation, and budget management for governance initiatives.
Communication & Influence – Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex governance concepts to executive audiences and influence decisions across the organization.
Regulatory & Industry Awareness – Comprehensive understanding of utility sector regulations, compliance requirements, and emerging trends in energy and digital transformation.
Vendor & Partner Management – Experienced in managing third-party vendors and technology partners, including RFP development, contract negotiation, and performance oversight.
Innovation & Market Awareness – Knowledgeable in emerging technologies (IoT, AI, smart grid) and global governance trends, with the ability to identify and implement innovative practices that enhance agility and operational excellence.
