ROLE OVERVIEW Our Forward Deployed Engineers are not support engineers, they’re builders at their core. As the first engineering hire in Gecko’s Washington, DC office, you’ll play a foundational role in establishing our local engineering presence, and have the opportunity to build a team. You’ll lead the effort to expand Gecko’s government-focused work, directly shaping how we deliver technology that strengthens critical national infrastructure. As a Lead Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll develop the team that builds our Government business within the context of a single customer at a time. You’ll work closely with mission-driven partners to seek out valuable cross disciplinary problems that hold our customers back, including issues like manufacturing and production velocity, as well as availability of Naval ships, submarines, and aircraft. You won’t stop at identifying these challenges, you’ll also design and deliver end-to-end solutions, prove their impact, and drive adoption. By solving specific, high-value problems for government customers, you’ll also help evolve Gecko’s broader platforms and tools that scale across our entire customer base. This is a rare opportunity to build from the ground up, meaning you can be hands-on in technical problem solving as well as strategic growth of a team that delivers transformative technology for the nation’s most critical systems. WHAT YOU WILL DO - Act as a hands-on technical expert for a team of Forward Deployed Engineers; provide guidance, mentorship, ensure best practices and lead by example. - Manage the allocation of resources to effectively balance priorities and opportunities to ensure optimal project outcomes. - Solve Real Problems: We search for the highest impact problems we can find, we spend a lot of time with our customers to understand their true nature, we come up with new ways, and we don’t quit until we’ve reached impact. - Growth: The problems we work on are hard. No one has yet solved them. We are constantly learning and trying - and that includes learning about ourselves. We are a group who loves to grow - even if it requires hard work to do so. TECHNOLOGIES WE USE - Python, Javascript, C++ - Google Cloud, Amazon Web Services ABOUT YOU - Experience leading a team of engineers - Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or relevant experience. - Familiarity with sensor selection and data processing. - Familiarity with data structures, storage systems, cloud infrastructure, front-end frameworks, and other technical tools. - Understanding of how technical decisions impact the user of what you’re building. - Proficiency with programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, or similar languages. - Ability to work effectively in teams of technical and non-technical individuals. - Skill and comfort working in a rapidly changing environment with dynamic objectives and iteration with users. - Demonstrated ability to continuously learn, work independently, and make decisions with minimal supervision.
