Laboratory Operator I - EST (Temporary)
Where will you work: - K2, Esterhazy, Saskatchewan.
About the role
To safely and efficiently carry out the duties of Lab Operator I with minimum direction and supervision.
What will you do?
Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills while effectively handling multiple priorities.
Conduct all required analytical and testing procedures for process control, shipping samples, environmental samples, mine samples, basic water analysis, and other assigned samples.
Utilize laboratory computer systems to accurately update and maintain daily analytical data and records.
Operate laboratory analytical equipment and perform routine calibrations, checks, and minor adjustments.
Calibrate standard laboratory instruments in accordance with established procedures.
Prepare routine standard solutions required for analytical testing.
Support the adaptation and implementation of laboratory procedures to meet new or revised operational requirements.
Maintain accurate laboratory statistics, documentation, and records in compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
Interpret and apply Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information in daily laboratory activities.
Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies in analytical results or procedures, escalating issues when appropriate.
Workday, afternoon, and night shifts, including rotating schedules, as operationally required.
Perform duties independently with minimal supervision within the K1 and K2 laboratories.
Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.
Strictly adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) standards and internal safety policies at all times.
What do you need for this role?
Post-secondary education in a chemistry-related field, preferably completion of a two-year Industrial Laboratory Technologist program from a recognized institution.
A minimum of one year of related laboratory experience is preferred.
Working understanding of refinery process sample terminology.
Proficiency with computer systems, including working knowledge of Windows-based environments.
Familiarity with basic instrumental analytical techniques, including Atomic Absorption, ICP-OES, Flame Photometry, pH measurement, UV/Visible Spectrophotometry, X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), FT-NIR, and related methods.
