Job Description
SUMMARY:
As a Payroll Accountant, you will primarily be responsible for supporting the Managed Services team of our outsourced payroll partner to ensure they have all necessary inputs to accurately process payroll for our US-based employees.
REPORTING TO/DEPARTMENT:
Reports to the Assistant Corporate Controller in the Finance & Accounting department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure the outsourced payroll processor is provided with accurate and timely inputs necessary to process payroll, including approved timecard data, pay rates, benefit deductions, 401(k) deferrals, ESPP deductions, etc.
Review and retain payroll cycle documentation, including import logs, payroll registers, and automatic pay calculations, etc.
Assist in providing supporting documentation for annual 401(k) and workers’ compensation audits, and other audits as needed
Process funding of employee 401(k) and employee benefit accounts
Coordinate unemployment claims processing with outsourced payroll processor
Ensure the outsourced payroll processor receives copies of all mailings related to payroll, including tax letters and rate changes
Support year-end payroll close and W-2 processing
Perform reconciliations of payroll-related balance sheet accounts and post journal entries
Ensure that all payroll processing-related controls and narratives are maintained and accurately represent current best practices
Partner with Human Resources on all matters involving employee compensation, benefits, and disability payments. Understand proper taxation of employer-paid benefits, including ESPP and 401(k) contributions and funding
Ensure compliance with company policies, as well as federal and state payroll regulations
Communicate effectively in a manner that promotes trust and cooperation
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Preferred or Desired:
Workday and ADP Workforce Now (or similar) experience is preferred
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline required
5+ years of experience processing payroll
Regulatory payroll knowledge
Must be able to think outside the box, work independently with general supervision, be a team player, and be willing to contribute beyond the defined role to meet business needs as circumstances require
Must demonstrate strong time management, written communication, and verbal communication skills
Ability to prioritize effectively, meet deadlines, work with others, and follow through to execute all tasks
Commitment to customer service with a strong sense of ownership for projects and results
Excellent organizational and communication skills
