Passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry?
Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus is a technology company at the forefront of precision medicine, advancing healthcare through AI-driven diagnostics and real-world evidence. Our diagnostics business sits at the intersection of clinical operations, commercial outcomes, and data, serving physicians and health systems across oncology and genomics. We are building the operational infrastructure that will define how Tempus scales its diagnostic operations.
We're looking for an Associate Project Manager to join our Operational Excellence team and lead the next phase of how the diagnostics organization plans and prioritizes its work. Diagnostics runs dozens of initiatives at once, from new tests and launches to system and process improvements, and leaders need a clear, fair way to decide what gets resourced and a reliable view of how that work is progressing. In this role, you will run and continuously improve that process end to end: how requests come in, how they are reviewed and ranked, and how progress is tracked and reported to leadership. You will use AI tools such as Claude and Cursor to make planning and tracking faster and smarter, and you will partner with stakeholders across the diagnostics organization to make the new way of working stick.
Responsibilities:
Support the quarterly planning and prioritization cycle for the diagnostics organization end to end: intake, review and triage, preparing materials for leadership decision meetings, and publishing the final prioritized list
Drive adoption of new planning and prioritization processes across multiple internal teams: build alignment with stakeholders, train and support project owners, gather feedback and iterate
Use AI tools (such as Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT or Gemini) to redesign how projects are planned and tracked: build trackers and automations, summarize submissions and stakeholder input, draft status updates, and check the output for accuracy
Implement and maintain the tracking system for prioritized initiatives, including monthly status, milestones and change requests
Build and maintain reports and dashboards that give leadership a clear view of priorities, capacity and progress; partner with Business Intelligence to identify KPIs and validate data accuracy
Prepare clear, concise materials for executive reviews and decision meetings
Serve as the subject matter expert for the tools and systems that support planning and diagnostics operations, ensuring data integrity and efficient workflows
Perform hands-on data work as needed, including pulling and combining data across source systems to support reporting and decisions
Partner with teams across the diagnostics organization, including Product Management, Engineering, R&D/Science, Bioinformatics, Lab Operations, Customer Success, Sales and Marketing, Commercial Systems/SFDC, Billing and Revenue Cycle, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Legal, Quality, Finance, Business Intelligence, Strategy & Operations and Internal Operations, to identify gaps, align on decisions and keep initiatives moving
Support operational communications to project owners and leaders across the diagnostics network
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in Life Sciences, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field
2-4 years of experience in project or program management, product management, business operations, or strategy and operations roles, including leading initiatives that span multiple teams
Demonstrated experience driving process changes across multiple internal teams, from design through adoption, including bringing stakeholders with competing priorities to a decision
Proven, hands-on use of AI tools (such as Claude, Cursor or similar) in project management work, for example building trackers or automations, synthesizing large amounts of input, or speeding up reporting. You can show real examples and explain how you check AI output for accuracy
Must be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
Persistent and resilient person who thrives in a fast-paced, highly iterative environment
Is highly organized and systematic, with superb attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to turn operational detail into a clear story and prepare materials for executive audiences
Comfort working with data: familiarity with SQL and data visualization tools (Looker preferred; Tableau acceptable), or a strong willingness to build these skills
Proficiency with CRM and operating systems (Salesforce/SFDC) and general database management
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Slides)
Nice to Haves:
Experience running portfolio prioritization, quarterly planning, roadmap planning or project intake processes
Experience in healthcare diagnostics, oncology, or life sciences
Familiarity with clinical and lab data systems (LIMS, EMR)
Experience building dashboards or operational reporting
Experience with Google Apps Script or other lightweight automation
CHI: $65,000-$80,000
The expected salary range may vary for other locations. Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
