Job Description
The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Manager to lead our Sovereign Cloud engineering group. In this role, you will manage and grow a diverse team of highly motivated engineers responsible for designing and building a high-scale, multi-tenant cloud platform. This platform abstracts complex isolation, quota management, and jurisdictional compliance into a seamless experience—powering our sovereign OpenShift-as-a-Service, VM-as-a-Service, and Model-as-a-Service (AI) offerings.
You will lead the technical and strategic execution of this project from inception through upstream development to delivery, ensuring your team collaborates effectively with architects, product managers, and open-source communities. You will drive both the engineering excellence of the team and the broader business outcomes for Red Hat's sovereign cloud initiatives.
What you will do:
Manage, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers and technical leads focused on sovereign cloud infrastructure and Kubernetes deployment architectures.
Lead the strategic vision, direction, and execution of feature development for sovereign OpenShift-as-a-Service, VM-as-a-Service, and AI Model-as-a-Service offerings.
Coordinate with cross-functional team leads, architects, and other engineering managers on the overarching design, architecture, and technical roadmap of our offerings.
Drive your team's active participation and contributions in container and virtualization-related open-source communities, such as Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, and KubeVirt.
Take ownership of the quality, security, and delivery of our offerings; ensure rigorous peer code reviews, robust continuous integration (CI), and rapid responses to security threats.
Collaborate with the Quality Engineering (QE) team to ensure projects are tested thoroughly and meet enterprise standards.
Partner with Red Hat's Global Customer Support and partner support teams to resolve escalated customer issues and ensure a seamless customer experience.
Promote the team's work and thought leadership through engineering blogs, web postings, or conference talks.
Champion the proactive use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) within your team to accelerate development cycles and enhance code quality.
What you will bring:
15+ years of experience in the software industry, with a strong background in software engineering, systems development, or cloud architecture.
10+ years of direct people management experience, with a proven track record of leading, mentoring, and growing high-performing software engineering teams.
Experience successfully managing a group of 25+ engineers, including guiding both individual contributors and subordinate engineering managers or team leads.
Strong technical foundation in a Linux environment with an understanding of languages like Golang, Python, Java, or C/C++.
Expertise in container ecosystems (Docker, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift) and cloud-native infrastructure.
Solid understanding of microservices architectures, API design, versioning, and monitoring.
Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical requirements and compliance needs (such as jurisdictional isolation) into actionable engineering deliverables.
Technical leadership acumen with experience building and executing aggressive delivery plans in a global, distributed team environment.
Experience with AI frameworks, tooling, and their infrastructure requirements.
Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Proficient written and verbal communication skills in English.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent working experience.
The following are considered a plus:
Deep familiarity with jurisdictional data sovereignty, compliance frameworks, or security-focused cloud environments.
Experience with cloud development and operating Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platforms.
Familiarity with virtualization (specifically KubeVirt), advanced networking, or distributed storage.
Background in DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
A strong history of open-source development and community leadership.
