The opportunity
Altruist is seeking a Senior Manager, Trading Credit Risk – Margin & Options to provide senior-level leadership over credit risk arising from customer trading activity. This role is responsible for overseeing margin and options credit exposure, setting risk strategy, and leading a team that manages risk through both steady-state operations and periods of market stress. You’ll act as a key risk leader and escalation authority, partnering closely with Trading, Brokerage Operations, Product, Engineering, Compliance, and executive Risk leadership to build out the risk framework, develop talent, and help launch and scale our margin and options offerings so programs remain compliant and scale safely.
What you’ll do
Provide senior leadership for trading credit risk oversight related to margin lending and options trading
Set and maintain credit risk strategy, limits, thresholds, and escalation frameworks
Oversee monitoring of customer leverage, buying power, margin balances, and options exposure
Lead response to market stress events, including elevated margin calls, forced liquidations, and systemic risk scenarios
Review and challenge margin methodologies, options risk frameworks, and liquidation strategies
Serve as a senior escalation point for high-risk accounts, complex scenarios, and firm-wide credit risk events
Oversee and manage collateral requirements and firm obligations at The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC)
Partner with Trading, Product, and Engineering on risk rule changes, automation, and platform enhancements
Lead preparation and presentation of credit risk reporting to senior leadership and risk committees
Support and lead regulatory exams, audits, and supervisory interactions
Own and maintain credit risk policies, WSPs, and governance documentation
Lead, mentor, and develop managers and analysts; build a strong, resilient risk team
Drive continuous improvement of risk analytics, controls, and monitoring tools
What you bring
7+ years of experience in trading credit risk, margin risk, or brokerage risk management
Deep, hands-on expertise in margin lending and options trading
Strong understanding of customer leverage, options strategies, and liquidation mechanics
Experience managing OCC collateral and clearing risk requirements and familiarity with OCC Encore
Extensive experience in a second-line risk oversight or independent risk function
Proven people leadership experience, including managing managers or leading larger teams
Ability to make sound risk decisions under pressure and during volatile market conditions
Strong executive communication skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders
Excellent judgment, strategic thinking, and operational discipline
Licenses and credentials
Series 7 and Series 63 required
Series 24 and Series 4 required
Series 57 required, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
Nice to have
Experience at a custodian, clearing firm, or fintech brokerage
Familiarity with FIS and Sterling trading platforms is a plus
Background in stress testing models, margin engines, or automated credit risk systems
Experience leading risk functions through significant market events
Familiarity with clearing, OMS/EMS, or brokerage risk platforms
Experience scaling risk programs in high-growth environments
